at an actual live event where you can feel the music, and saturate your senses with the powerful, driving
atmosphere of a live audience, as well as hear it.
I think the reason most people buy a ticket to a live event is not necessarily for the music, but for the
atmosphere of people with the same tastes, usually some favorite or unique cuisine scent wafting through the air, and the
opportunity to hear the music (unedited) on a better sound system than they have at home. If they're lucky there will
be some other sensual stimulation like a visual production of
some sort, or an opportunity to interact with other audience members or the performer. Maybe dancing, or whatever else the performer/participants conjour up to encourage interaction,
and a good time had by all.
For the
fans, live music is a welcome release from the daily grind. For the
hobbyist musician, it is a welcome release, and a chance to make some pocket change. For the
professional, it can be a very lucrative way to fund their release (pun intended) with emotionally connected, inspired support from a
loyal fanbase who will gladly pay for shows and merchandise to support the cause...as long as the quality of the shows
and merchandise meets, or better yet, exceeds their expectations. It's my perception that most musicians are varying degrees
of all three.
As a lifelong music lover and co-founder of the sound company
DigiSound, I've experienced many shows and developed varied tastes in a wide range of music preferences.
I've been disappointed over the years in one area regarding music. Anticipating a potentially great
show only to hear it come out sounding like it's on a giant transistor radio, obnoxious frequencies and volumes wrecking
the intended sound, or worse yet, vocals or instruments not coming out at all. All leading to an indifferent "dead" audience,
or offended "leaving" audience.
I've also witnessed events where the quality of the power distribution, stage volume, and frequency
control were so "in the zone" that even the hearing impaired were able to enjoy the "vibes" and rhythms of a great live show
without assaulting the ear drums of the rest of us.
Those events (along with the need to test out this new web server and their "easy installation website"
program for my fellow website development handicapped, aspiring webmasters...and have some fun doing it) has inspired
me to branch out with this website dedicated to exceptional talent, production and contributions to the elusive
